Ski touring at night on the slopes of South Tyrol
As a rule, in South Tyrolean ski areas it is not permitted to go up or down with tour skis on slopes. However, some South Tyrolean ski areas make an exception one evening a week. Ascent and descent are therefore possible within a clearly defined time window.
Along the open slopes you will find at least one open hut. In some cases, however, reservations are required at the huts and restaurants on the slopes. Here is an overview of the ski touring evenings in South Tyrol for this ski season:
Bozen and environs
- Reinswald skiing area: the marked slopes are open to ski touring on Thursday evenings from 17:00. The Pichlberg and Sunnalm mountain restaurants serve culinary delights: Reservations required.
- Rittner Horn ski area: On Wednesday evenings, the uphill slope and downhill slope 4 and 1 are open to ski touring between 18:00 and 22:30: The Feltuner Hut and Berggasthof Unterhorn are also open, reservation required.
Eisacktal
- Gitschberg Jochtal ski area: Until 18 March 2025, it is possible to ski touring in the Jochtal ski area on Tuesday evenings from 18:00 to 23:15: the Jochtal mountain restaurant and the Nockalm will also be open, and the cable car will operate from 20:00 to 23:15.
Meran and Environs
- Meran 2000 ski area: On Thursdays and Fridays, the ski touring slope from Falzeben to St. Oswald Kirchlein is open from 18:00 to 23:00, and until that time, tour skiing is permitted via the St. Oswald | Rotwandhütte | Zuegghütte | Falzeben ski piste. The Kuhleitenhütte hut is open on these evenings, but is not directly on the ski slope and can only be reached via the open terrain and at one's own risk.
Passeiertal
- Pfelders ski area: Until 12 March 2025, the ascent and descent to the edge of the Grünboden and Karjoch ski slopes is possible on Wednesday evenings between 17:30 and 22:30. An alternative ascent route leads via piste 1 to the Grünboden hut, which is open on these evenings. The cable car operates from 18:30 to 22:30.
Tauferer Ahrntal | Skiworld Ahrntal
- Klausberg ski area: On Thursday evenings, skiers can use the downhill run and the Hexenschuss slope between 18:00 and 24:00. The Baurschafthütte hut is also open in the evenings
Vinschgau
- Schöneben-Haideralm ski area: On Tuesday evenings, the Haideralm slope can be used from 17:00 to 23:00. The Haideralm is also open in the evening and the cable car operates from 18:30 to 20:00 and from 21:30 to 23:00.
- Watles ski area: from 24 January to 7 March 2025, every fortnight, on Fridays from 19:00 to 23:00, there will be a hut evening for ski touring and snowshoe hikers at the Höfer Alm. On other Friday evenings, until 14 March, there will be a tobogganing evening. The Watles toboggan run is illuminated from 19:00 to 23:00 and the Plantapatsch hut is open.
Don't forget your headlamp during evening tours and make sure that the slopes or ascent routes are free for grooming within the last few hours, otherwise it will be dangerous. Since the ascent routes or slopes may only be partially open or completely closed due to lack of snow, it is always a good idea to enquire at the relevant area about the current possibilities for ski touring before setting off on a tour.
