Ancient traditions and crafts, historical awareness and the importance of individuality and homeland is still present today when you look at the customs in the single valleys.
Cultural variety
It does not matter where you go in South Tyrol, the local castles can be found in almost all valleys being important evidence of an eventful history. Also, they attribute a very special charm to the picturesque natural landscape. Worth to be mentioned as well are the churches and monasteries, such as Säben Monastery above Eisacktal – a landmark of South Tyrol.
Some unique attractions for culture fans are, for instance, the Cinema Knottn in Vöran with a dreamlike panoramic view, the historical Ritten Railway or the famous photo spots such as the Messner Mountain Museum Corones on top of Mt. Kronplatz.
The about 90 museums in South Tyrol bear as well witness of the rich cultural heritage. The museums are spread all over the region and are dedicated to different topics, such as the Museum of Archaeology in Bozen, the Schneeberg Mine in Ridnaun or the Touriseum in Meran.
South Tyrol’s culture also includes the fantastic world of legends, celebrities such as Reinhold Messner and the countless cultural events taking place all year round.
