Tips for weatherproof holidays
Spring doesn't seem to want to arrive this year, warm days and blue skies have been few so far, but we trust in the fact that 'it can't rain forever' and that rain is not necessarily an impediment to a pleasant holiday in South Tyrol!
In bad weather, the most popular outdoor activities in the area, such as climbing for example, cannot be practised outdoors, but there is no shortage of indoor climbing gyms in South Tyrol to train and keep fit anyway, so that you are prepared to tackle the rock faces outdoors as soon as the weather permits.
Even when it comes to hiking, unless severe storms are forecast, with hail, lightning and thunder, nothing stands in the way of an easy hike. Even walks in the rain have their own charm - as long as you are well equipped and stay on the marked path.
What if I don't want to get wet?
However, not everyone likes to get wet and just like cats, they prefer to stay away from water, warm and sheltered. There are alternatives for these rainy days! One of them is a visit to the famous Ötzi in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology. In this case, we advise you to book your ticket in advance to make sure you get in, because many will have had the same idea as you. The alternative, in case you don't find room and don't like too much confusion, is a visit to one of South Tyrol's many other, less frequented but equally interesting museums, such as the Women's Museum in Meran or the Typewritermuseum in Partschins.
For those who just can't sit still
The Easy Jump park is perfect for children and sporty adults. Jumpers can really let off steam in the trampoline hall in Egna. The indoor hall is open from Tuesday to Sunday and offers plenty of fun and action. Also great for children's birthday parties, regardless of the weather. Reservations are compulsory in the evenings due to the large crowds, but we still recommend booking in advance. It would be a shame to get there and then not be able to get in because the maximum number of visitors has already been reached.
For cinema lovers
It's been a while since you went to the cinema? Even if TV screens are getting bigger and bigger, the cinema still has its charms. Try it out and book your ticket in good time. In South Tyrol you can find the Cineplexx and the UCI in Bozen, the cinema Stella in Brixen and the Odeon CineCenter in Bruneck. There is also the Film Club, which runs the Capitol cinema in Bolzano and the Ariston cinema in Merano. The Film Club also organises regular film screenings in Brixen, Bruneck, Neumarkt, Schlanders and Sterzing, always offering popular films. During the week, screenings in South Tyrolean cinemas start in the late afternoon or evening, and on weekends even earlier.
For gourmets
Do you like cheese in all its variations and have you always wanted to know how milk can be transformed in this way? Then we recommend a visit to the Capriz cheese dairy in Vintl, along the Pustertal state road, in the Loden World area. Here you will find a true cheese lover's paradise (goat and non-goat) covering an area of 1,000 m². A curiosity: Capriz was the first dairy in South Tyrol to specialise in goat cheese!
A giant-sized goat and a building in the shape of a piece of cheese and a copper pot, the work of architect Stefan Gamper, will welcome you on your arrival. As well as being very special, the building is also made entirely of sustainable materials such as stone pine wood, copper and glass. On the ground floor and in the basement is the actual cheese factory where you can discover how cheese is made thanks to interactive elements. Through the large glass windows you can admire the workers at work. There is also a gastronomy area where you can taste the various types of cheese and a shop. For those who wish, the visit can be combined with a cheese tasting.
Lazing around for a while
But you don't have to find something to do. You could even dedicate a whole day to lazing around... every now and then! You could start by waking up a little later than usual, have a hearty breakfast, go back to your room to read a good book and maybe spend a few hours between massages and saunas.
If you are travelling with children, your hotel swimming pool or one of the many public pools in South Tyrol could be a good solution to spend a few hours all together. If you have chosen a family hotel, the children will have a playroom, animators and interesting programs to spend the day.
But that's not to say that if there's no swimming pool you can't have fun! Try putting on a pair of boots, a mackintosh and go out with your children to play in the rain, jump in puddles and listen to the sound of raindrops in the trees. When you get back you will certainly have to take a shower and dry all your clothes, but fun is guaranteed, for adults and children alike!
