Source of life – natural and well-tried
The Bergila family business in Issing near Pfalzen has been in existence for over 100 years: The traditional South Tyrolean company of the Niederkofler family is now in its 4th generation of producing essential oils and herbal products with care, passion and in harmony with nature.
High-quality and organic natural products
Bergila favours quality over quantity and combines tried and tested methods with innovative ideas. From 1912 to the present day, the process of extracting pure essential oils from fresh plant material has been maintained.
The natural oils obtained are further processed in the company into various products, such as natural cosmetics.
The entire production process, from the plant to the finished product, is in one hand and is certified organic. Not only the processing of the raw materials, but also their production and harvesting, is carried out with the utmost care.
Regional and sustainable
When growing and harvesting, the Niederkofler family follows the lunar phase calendar according to Maria Thun and takes into account the rhythm of each individual plant in order to maximise the content of active ingredients and the shelf life of the raw materials. Mixed cultivation helps to prevent pests and vermin in a natural way.
This careful handling of each individual plant species in all stages from cultivation to the finished product means a great deal of labour and expense, but this is the only way to guarantee the high quality standard.
The regionality of the raw materials is particularly important. However, very few have to be imported due to the 850-metre altitude and the alpine climate in the cultivation area. These are a rare exception, labelled on the packaging, as the end products are designed with regional feasibility in mind.
Genuine and honest
Bergila has nothing to hide, on the contrary: transparency and complete openness towards the customer are part of the company's concept. This is why, until recently, guided tours of the distillery were also offered. However, as the historic part of the mountain pine oil distillery burnt down in August 2023, the distillery is closed until further notice. Fortunately, the herb shop and the garden were spared from the fire.
Franz Niederkofler has noticed that sensitive customers are currently scrutinising the origin and ingredients of products and making more targeted purchases. They are happy to pay a reasonable price for regional and organic quality products from sustainable cultivation. The trend towards mindfulness and the appreciation of regionality means that more and more young people are also interested in Bergila's natural products.
A strong team
Passion, experience and technical skills are what characterise Franz, the head of the family. As the strong woman behind the successful man, Brigitte is the attentive expert when it comes to plants and flowers. Daughter Andrea enriches the family business with her creativity and daughter Verena also supports the family with her optimism.
However, not only the Niederkofler family, but the entire Bergila team shares the love for nature and their own work. This is reflected in the high-quality products. Whether it's Swiss stone pine oil with a spicy resin scent, herbal liqueur made according to an old recipe or edelweiss face cream for a fresh complexion – the naturalness of the raw materials in all Bergila products is impressive across the board.
The wide range of products are ideal as gift ideas for your loved ones. Or you can treat yourself and give yourself a gift with the pampering products. The Bergila herb shop at Issinger Weiher is open all year round.
