Route description
We take a curious basket lift from the hamlet of Vellau to the Leitneralm at 1,522 metres. Our hike begins on trail no. 24 towards the Hochgang mountain hut. Once there, we take the steep trail no. 7 up to an altitude of 2,441 metres to the Hochgangscharte. Caution! - The ascent is via ladders and iron chains and is definitely only suitable for experienced hikers with a head for heights. Once at the top, the view of the emerald-green water jewels Langsee, Grünsee and Mückensee opens up. We walk along the shores of the lakes and take the turn-off at Grünsee to trail no. 22, which leads to Kasersee and Pfitschersee lakes. Finally, we hike over steep serpentines to the Pfitschersattel and on trail no. 25 back to the Leitner Alm.
