Route description

From Saltaus take the Hirzer cable car up to Klammeben (1,980 m). Follow trail no. 40 to the Hirzerhütte (2,017 m) and the Tallner Alm. On the Gebirgsjägerweg trail no. 4 (the European long-distance hiking trail no. 5 also runs here) steeply up to the Hirzerscharte (2,698 m), there is a secured wire rope passage to overcome. Continue along a narrow, steep ridge to the summit (2,781 m).

Return: From the summit back down to Hirzerscharte, and over rock and scree on a narrow path towards Anteranalm. Continue on path 4, narrow and exposed, to Kratzberger See. After the lake, follow a good path with views of the Pens Valley to the Missensteiner Joch (2,128 m). After 15 minutes you reach the Kirchsteiger Alm and the Merano 2000 cable car. From here, take the cable car down to the Pfiffinger Köpfl and then the cable car back down to Naif near Merano. Take the bus back to the starting point.
