Short description

The Ifinger is one of the most famous mountains in Meran and environs and is therefore very popular. Nevertheless, it is worth a hike if only for the fabulous views as far as the Dolomites.

Description

The hike up the Ifinger has an alpine character and leads partly via a via ferrata. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are therefore prerequisites for climbing the Ifinger.

Starting point of the tour

Meran Obermais

Destination point of the tour

Ifinger hut

Route description

The hike starts in Meran Obermais. To make the first ascent easier, hikers take the Ifinger cable car to the mountain station and start the hike there. From the mountain station, the trail first leads over the Naifjoch to the St. Oswald church and from there on to the Kuhleiten mountain station.

From here, continue along the ridge to the Kleiner Ifinger. Below the Kleiner Ifinger, a path with chains branches off and leads to the Großer Ifinger, one of the most beautiful and panoramic mountains in Meran and environs. The way back is via the Naifjoch and on path no. 18 to the Ifinger hut. From here, trail no. 20 branches off to the Gsteier and trail no. 3 takes you back to the starting point.
