Provincial Mining Museum Location Prettau
The former copper mine in Prettau allows visitors to get interesting insights into mining that had mining very important in Tauferer Ahrntal for several centuries, as a show mine.
There is evidence that copper was already searched during the bronze area in Prettau. The mining tradition has begun in 1426. As everywhere, the mining begun on the surface first. In Prettau this was below Röt cross at about 2,000 m. First, pits were sufficient and later mining tunnels were driven into the mountain. In 1971, the mining operations were stopped.
Adventurous mine
The show mine in Prettau in Tauferer Ahrntal is not only a popular attraction for families. Various guided tours are offered too. A highlight is the driving into St. Ignaz tunnel with the mine train. After 1 km you get off the train wearing a helmet and rain jacket. Then, a circular tour allows you to see how the pitmen worked informer days.

Another mine deep down in the mountain allows you to relax and regenerate in the location of Prettau: the climatic gallery with its clean air is perfect for persons with chronic respiratory diseases. With the combined ticked, you can learn more about mining in the locations of Prettau and Steinhaus with a special exhibition in the former Kornkasten.
