Hiking tour Rieserferner hut
Short description
Hike to the stone hut in the Steinmeer at the foot of the Rieserferner peaks
Description
The ascent to the Rieserfernerhütte via the Gelltal valley is a slightly longer option. However, the wildly romantic and barely hiked valley makes up for the extra effort.
Starting point of the tour
Car park before Rein in Taufers
Destination of the tour
Rieserferner hut (2,792 m)
Route description
At Sand in Taufers, turn right by car into the Reintal valley. At the end of the steep hairpin bends, where the road levels out again for the first time, we park the car in the car park to the left of the roadside. Trail no. 3 is therefore our route.
It winds its way through dense forest, past babbling brooks and small waterfalls to the outer Gelltalalm. Here, at the edge of the forest, there are extensive pastures. We shouldn't linger too long watching the marmots and chamois, as the remaining stretch to the inner Gelltalalm and over the strenuous last section of boulders is a tough one. After around four hours, we are finally greeted by the hut owner.
