Route description
From the car park at the cross-country skiing centre in the village centre of Rein in Taufers, we follow trail no. 1 into the Ursprungtal valley. From the start we have the Kasseler Hütte in view. After half an hour, the trail turns off the valley floor into the steep eastern flanks below the Kasseler Hütte. In long, moderately ascending serpentines, the trail leads through gnarled coniferous forests up to the high alpine pastures of the Rieserferner group. After just two hours, we reach the refuge, which rises up steeply in the steep terrain. Here you have to make a decision: Give your attention to the hut host's famous specialities or the fantastic rock faces and glacier tongues of Hochgall (3,435 m) and Schneebiger Nock. (3.368 m).
