Hiking in the Eisacktal Valley: The famous Chestnut Trail in Feldthurns.

Description

Hiking in Feldthurns is not possible without a detour on the "Keschtnweg" or chestnut trail, which runs through the Eisacktal valley from Brixen to Ritten and leads through ancient chestnut groves and to historical sights.

Starting point of the tour

Gasthof Wöhrmaurer (near Feldthurns)

Destination of the tour

Klausen

Route description

The starting point of the hike on the chestnut trailis the Wöhrmaurer, an inn on the outskirts of Feldthurns. Follow trail no. 11 on a level path over the Tschiffnon to the Ansitz Ziernfeld. From here, nature lovers hike in a south-westerly direction and on trail no. 12 further into the village centre of Feldthurns, passing the Laurentius church and Antoniuskirchl and finally to the Radoarhof. There, after a short climb through chestnut groves and mixed forest, hikers reach the Ansitz Moar zu Viersch, a popular and highly recommended Törggelehof. But instead of stopping, culture-interested walkers head southwest and follow trail no. 12 to the Huber in Pardell, a small Eisacktal hamlet.

Here you continue on trail no. 1 to the wonderfully situated Säben Monastery. After a rewarding visit, hikers descend to Klausen and can take the public bus back to the starting point after a tour of the town.
