Route description
This beautiful hike begins in the village centre of St. Michael. From the main square, hikers first climb to the Gleifkirche church and the Steinegger inn. Here, nature lovers take trail no. 7 in a south-westerly direction and climb the Matschatscherberg. From there, there is a marvellous view of the beautifully situated Matschatsch Castle.
Above the castle, in the so-called "Michaeler Riebn", the famous Eppaner Höhenweg trail begins at bend no. 6, which hikers follow for three hours. The trail leads to Buchwald, where nature lovers can hike back to St. Michael via Kreuzstein and Freudenstein Castle.
