A particularly rewarding and above all short hike is the one from Terlan to the Greifenstein ruins - also known as Sauschloss.
Description
Terlano/Terlan on the Wine Road is a lovely wine village north of Bolzano/Bozen and is known among gourmets above all for its delicious asparagus. However, it is not only the lily that does you good, but also the many hiking trails around Terlan.

Route description
The starting point of the tour is Siebeneich near Terlan. At the Gasthof Patauner inn, hikers take the road subway and walk to the baroque church of the Teutonic Order. From there, continue uphill on path no. 11a to a settlement by the forest. After the group of houses, walkers cross the stream bed and hike on a wonderful path through downy oak forest to the Greifenstein ruins.
Only experienced and sure-footed hikers should climb the ruins themselves. The path is quite exposed and narrow. Return along the same path or turn off in the downy oak forest in the direction of St Cosmas and Damain (path no. 11).
