Wonderful Dürrensee
The inlets of Dürrensee are Rienz river and Popena river, the outlet is Rienz river as well. In summer, when the water inflow is very low, the lake warms up more than other lakes located at similar altitudes. As well, you can make a circular tour of the lake. On the western shore, there is a restaurant.
Hiking, mountain biking & cross-country skiing
In summer, you can reach Dürrensee, located 7 km from Toblach, by bike. In winter, the cycle path becomes a wonderful cross-country ski run leading to Cortina d’Ampezzo. Mountain bikers will look forward to a panoramic tour that starts as well in Toblach, passes along Dürrensee and goes on to Mt. Strudelkopf. From Plätzwiese, you can go back to the starting point in Prags Valley.
From Dürrensee, trained hikers can discover the Pioneers’ path to Monte Piana and go back to the lake on the Tourists’ path. During World War One, the northern peak of Monte Piano was occupied by the Austrians, the southern main peak of Monte Piana by the Italians. Countless positions, trenches and tunnels are still today proof of bitter fights.
Wonderful views
Above Dürrensee, there is a climbing park. From the vertical, partly overhanging wall, climbers have a wonderful view of Dürrensee. Hochpustertal holiday region offers many fixed-rope routes and climbing parks in the heart of the Dolomites – UNESCO World Natural Heritage – and is a real climbers’ paradise.
However, it is not only mountaineers who can enjoy beautiful panoramic views and impressive photo spots: Dürrensee offers a breath-taking view of Cristallo Group. Not more than 1 km form the lake in Three Peaks Nature Park, there is a wonderful viewing platform to the north faces of the Three Peaks, with interesting information about the landscape and a telescope.
