Fixed-rope routes at Speikboden
The Speikboden hiking area in the Tauferer Ahrntal is not only a paradise for hikers, but also for climbers: the selection of fixed rope routes ranges from an easy via ferrata for children to a challenging via ferrata with an 18 metre long rope bridge and a 43 metre long suspension bridge.
Speikboden cableway near Sand in Taufers brings active guests to a height of 2,000 m. Near to the station Speikboden Alm, there are four fixed-rope routes varying difficulty for climbers of (almost) every age.
To Speikbodenkreuz
The Via Ferrata Speikboden is the most challenging fixed rope route in the Speikboden hiking area. The approach can be made either from the station Speikboden Alm (40 min ascent via hiking trail no. 27) or from the mountain station of the chairlift Sonnklar (30 min descent via forest path). There are 3 options for the way back to the station Speikboden Alm: via path no. 27 (1 h 30 min), via Panoramaweg path (2-3 h depending on the direction) or via the Sonnklar chairlift (walking time 30 min). At the top, at Speikbodenkreuz (2,517 m), you are offered a fantastic 360-degree panorama ranging from the Zillertal Alps to the Dolomites.

The Via Ferrata Avventura and the Via Ferrata Michl are 2 fixed rope routes on Speikboden with a medium level of difficulty. On the Via Ferrata Avventura up to the summit cross of the Kleiner Nock, there are bridges, play elements and an exit after a third of the way. The Via Ferata Michl leads up to a small mountain lake, the Speikboden See. From the Speikboden Alm station, the ascent to the Via Ferrata Avventura takes about 20 minutes (descent via forest road and forest path) and the ascent to the Via Ferrata Michl about 30 minutes (ascent following the signs).

Climbing for kids
The Via Ferrata Kids was specially designed for children aged 6 to 12. The entrance to Pirate's Rock is approx. 20 minutes' walk from the station Speikboden Alm. A fixed rope route adventure with a climbing net and other playful elements.

Sturdy shoes and via ferrata equipment are required for climbing the fixed rope routes. Kids and adults can rent harnesses, via ferrata sets and helmets near the station Speikboden Alm. Attention: Do not miss the last descent to the valley, for not having to walk back down on foot.
