Tomaselli fixed-rope route
With 2,980 m the mountains touches almost the 3,000 m mark. To reach Mount Südliche Fanesspitze, you have to take the Tomaselli fixed rope route, which is reachable at Falzarego Pass in the Dolomites near Cortina.
The fixed rope route is one of the most difficult in the Dolomites, but nevertheless it is also the most popular and visited one. There are no scales, only the fixed rope provides security and halt. Who wants to climb the Tomaselli fixed rope route, must have alpine know how, good condition and climbing-technique.
Tour description:
Starting point of the mountain tour is the Falzarego Pass (reachable over Cortina or Corvara in Alta Badia). Here you have to take the Lagazoui cable car. Arrived at the summit station, follow the path to Forcella Travenanzes and then path 20b to the accesses to the fixed rope route.
The via ferrata is very airy and exposed. A crossing in the beginning is already very difficult: there are no stairs. After this first challenge, the further route is very steep and exposed but without greater difficulties. After 2 hours, you reach the peak.
Also the descent is very airy. From the peak walk in northern direction and to the eastern wall to Selletta di Fanes. Go down south facing and you will reach path 20b to Forcella Travenanzes. On path 401 you reach after 4,5 hours the starting point.
