Holidays in Kastelbell-Tschars
Due to the idyllic and unique nature landscape – rich in contrast – the villages of Kastelbell and Tschars rank among the most popular destinations for epicures, who would like to spend their holidays in the western part of South Tyrol.
The natural landscapes along Etsch river in Vinschgau make this varied place incomparable. The municipality of Kastelbell and Tschars has about 2,400 inhabitants, living partly also in the other districts Galsaun, Juval with Messner's castle and Trumsberg on the left side of the valley as well as Marein, Latschinig, Freiberg and Tomberg on the right side. The wide bottom of the valley is surrounded by two contrasting mountain crests: the forested and shady Nörderberg and the sunny Sonnenberg.
Active & culture holidays
In the orchards and vineyards around Kastelbell-Tschars, you will find numerous sunny walking trails along old irrigation channels, which are optimally suitable for Nordic walking and hiking. Bikers have about 150 km of marked cycle paths through the villages and across the whole Vinschgau.
For winter sports lovers, there is a year-round skiing region on the glacier of Schnals, offering ski fun from October to May.
Finally, culture lovers can visit the mighty medieval Kastelbell Castle, that is a wonderful destination for easy hiking tours. Worth a visit as well is Juval Castle that is owned by extreme alpinist Reinhold Messner and that accommodates the Messner Mountain Museum Juval.
