Sleigh rides in South Tyrol
In addition to fun and action, many winter holidaymakers in South Tyrol are looking for peace and tranquillity, they want to lean back and enjoy the snow-covered mountain landscape. Horse-drawn sleigh rides are a particularly comfortable and eco-friendly way to discover the winter sports destinations in South Tyrol. Here, we present two famous sleigh ride areas in the Dolomites.
Horse-drawn sleigh rides in Gröden
During a horse-drawn sleigh ride across the winterly Gröden Valley, you can make excursions during the day and the night, just as in many other areas in South Tyrol. In this case, the real athletes are the Haflinger horses that have been bred in South Tyrol since decades: most of the times they are of ginger colour, have a brighter mane and are small but strong enough to draw the sleighs without difficulties.
In Gröden, there are several areas, that are perfect for horse-drawn sleigh rides, such as the area around Col Raiser, Fermeda hut and Pana pasture.
Sleigh rides in Toblach
Nestled down in to thick jackets, caps and cover nature lovers should not miss this experience and undertake a sleigh trip from the cross-country centre in Toblach in Hochpustertal to the small “Säghäusern” church and finally to the beautiful Lake Toblach.
Arrived there, the beautiful Noriker horses can have a break, while the guests on the sleigh can make a circular tour of Lake Toblach or warm up with a cup of tea or mulled wine in a bar.
