South Tyrolean wine route
In the surroundings of the South Tyrolean capital Bozen, at Lake Kaltern and in the area of Terlan and Tramin, there is the main South Tyrolean wine region with more than 4,000 hectares of vineyards and 70 wineries. South Tyrol’s best red and white wines come from here. The 16 wine villages are connected by the famous, serpentine South Tyrolean wine route. The road begins in Nals and winds across the vineyards and traditional villages of Überetsch and Southern South Tyrol until it ends in Salurn.
Along the 150 km long wine route, wine lovers can find everything the heart could desire: classic wineries that are hidden in the vineyards, beautiful, historical villages where the traditional wine culture is still being practised today as it was in its beginnings, and many small restaurants and inns serving South Tyrolean wines in combination with regional dishes.
Each year between spring and early summer, the villages on the South Tyrolean wine route celebrate the popular South Tyrolean Wine Road Weeks. Here, visitors can participate in wine tastings or wine seminars, visit vineyards and watch the process of wine production. All year round, the villages organise several festivals, focussing on the local wines as too.
