Trostburg Castle near Waidbruck
Above Waidbruck, on a rocky spur on an eastern slope, lies the imposing Trostburg Castle, which today houses the South Tyrolean Castles Museum.
The history of the castle near Waidbruck dates back to the 12th century. In the following century, the castle became the property of the Counts of Wolkenstein-Trostburg for almost 600 years. Oswald von Wolkenstein, late medieval singer, poet and composer, probably spent most of his childhood here. Between the 14th and 16th centuries, the castle complex was generously extended and rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 17th century under Count Engelhard Dietrich von Wolkenstein-Trostburg.
