Nature Park Trudner Horn
Woods, moors, meadows and moss – the Nature Park Trudner Horn offers no impressive Alpine peaks, but an incredible variety of animals and plants. And due to the short winter, you can explore them almost all year round during fantastic hikes.
The Nature Park Trudner Horn all in the south of South Tyrol is the most biodiverse nature park in South Tyrol. It embraces a forested mountain ridge between the valleys of Etschtal and Cembra, consisting of brownish red quartz porphyry and light dolomitic limestone with very particular contrasts. The peak of Mt. Trudner Horn (1,781 m) lies slightly behind the border of the nature park and of the province in Trentino.
Biodiversity
The nature reserve covers a surface of 6,851 ha and parts of the municipal areas of Altrei, Truden, Neumarkt, Montan and Salurn. The range of different forests is impressive – from sub-Mediterranean bush forests to sub-Alpine spruce forests. Great for flower lovers: the nature park is home for about 60 orchid types. The flora and fauna of the ecologically valuable high moors is exciting as well: Sundews and butterworts are native carnivorous plants here, catching and digesting insects and surviving on nutrient-poor soils as well.
Hiking in a nature paradise
Be it during a hiking tour via the Hochwand to Cisloner Alm or via the Lange Moos biotope to Krabes Alm: In the Nature Park Trudner Horn, nature lovers can explore fantastic panoramic views, seldom plants and idyllic places. Families with kids will love the Truden Legend Trail, the Altrei Legend Trail, the educational and circular Gschnoner trail with the pulpit as breath-taking viewpoint.
Visitor centres
In the village centre of Truden, the nature park’s visitor centre allows kids and adults to learn more about the animals, plants and geology of the protected area. During certain days, you can experience grain milling by an elevator mill or bread baking in a traditional wood stove. Moreover, in Gfrill near Salurn, there is an info point with interesting details about the world of water, amphibians and birds of the nature park.
