Emilio Comici Refuge
At 2,200 meters above sea level, at the foot of the impressive Mt. Langkofel, pleasure virtually is a law of nature – in most respects. On the one hand the view to the mountain world of the Dolomites is really fantastic and every hiker will surely be thrilled. On the other hand irresistible smells draw every passer-by to the hut with the sky-blue window shutters and the magnificent sunny terrace.
The refuge was opened in 1955 by the Marzola family and if they had named it after a star chef, today nobody would be surprised. Its fame may be also due to its position in the middle of the nearby mountains of the local alpinist Emilio Comici. First and foremost the refuge has the reputation of a gourmet and fish restaurant, which is almost as legendary as the mountaineer.
Banquets in the Dolomites
Famous guests such as Michael Schumacher, Albert II of Monaco and Fernando Alonso, but also “normal” gourmets coming out with happy looks and full stomachs, confirm the rightful reputation of Refuge Comici in Wolkenstein. A look at the menu and finally some samples of the cuisine dispel even the last doubts.
Cream cheese terrine with garden herbs and nut bread, nettle soup with black bread croutons, fillet of European sea bass with cherry tomatoes and elderberry yogurt mousse served in wafer rolls with summer fruits… The offer of traditional and new culinary delights, which are prepared with great creativity and passion, is quite vast, so that it isn’t really easy to choose only one. The dishes with fish and seafood are especially recommendable.
So, if you would like to go on a hike around Mt. Langkofel or to explore the ski runs of the famous Sellaronda, you should schedule more time and stop of at Emilio Comici Refuge – for a substantial lunch, for the popular cake-buffet in the afternoon, for an aperitif on the panoramic loge or for a flamboyant event in the evening.
