Salewa Cube in Bozen

A futuristic glass palace, smooth transition between indoor and outdoor, thousands and thousands of colourful holds on countless climbing and bouldering routes… Salewa Cube is definitely a perfect meeting point for climbers from all over the region.

2,000 sq m climbing and 420 sq m bouldering area indoors, additional routes and boulders outdoors, more than 18 m high walls, a 9 m long overhang – and all this was completed within a construction time of 15 months. These are the impressing facts of Salewa Cube that was opened in May 2011 in South Tyrol’s provincial capital, next to the motorway exit Bozen Süd.

The largest indoor climbing area throughout Italy is attached to the new headquarter of the sporting goods producer Salewa and it is dedicated to the alpinist Erich Abram. He was born in Sterzing, is considered as climbing pioneer and in 1974 he built Europe’s first indoor climbing hall in Bozen.

Climb indoor – feel outdoor

The huge climbing zone offers options for every climber – for shaky beginners as well as for casual pros. The tours are available in different levels of difficulty between 4 and 8c, the walls are up to 13 or 18 m high and there are overhanging and vertical ones. One of the highlights is the large door, standing open on sunny days.

Salewa Cube is composed of four sectors:

  • The Lead Area is designed for kids, beginners and other climbers wanting to improve their fitness. The West and South Wall, the self-belay zones, the rocky Rocktopia Wall and the practice wall on the North Tower offer many routes for every taste.
  • The Challenge Area with tours up to difficulty 8b is reserved for ambitious climbers with power and perseverance. They can choose between the “wild” North Face with its mighty overhang, the South Tower and a speed route.
  • If you would like to do without climbing rope, but to resolve tricky bouldering problems is spoilt for choice, because Salewa Cube offers 113 bouldering routes in the levels of difficulty A to E.
  • The outdoor area includes additional climbing and bouldering routes.
