Road bike holidays in South Tyrol
The range of road bike tours is as varied as the landscape of South Tyrol. What remains the same in all cases is the perfect infrastructure for road bikers. Curvy challenges
South Tyrol’s high Alpine passes are dream destinations for road bikers. The tours in the Dolomites are particularly popular. A highlight is Sellaronda, including four mountain passes of the Dolomites – UNESCO World Natural Heritage: Sella Pass, Gröden pass, Pordoi Pass and Campolongo Pass. Once a year, the road is closed for cars due to Sellaronda Bike Day, reserving it only for cyclists. Be it in the environs of Mt. Kronplatz or Three Peaks – there are many unique road bike routes with dreamlike panoramic views. As well, the popular track to Mendel Pass is free of cars once a year.
Each ambitious road biker should master once in his life, is Stilfserjoch in Vinschgau with 48 bends only on the South Tyrolean side. “Stilfserjoch Radtag” event in late summer allows cyclists to enjoy the magnificent mountain pass without any traffic. The valley of Martell and Ulten offer steep serpentines too.
