Biathlon centre Martell
20 years ago the first biathlon competitions took place in the valley of Martell in Vinschgau. In the aftermath the interest in this sport has continually increased and finally the small butts and the cross-country ski run were too small. Therefore, there was built a biathlon centre and some years later it was again expanded.
Today Martell offers about 12 kilometres of cross-country ski runs for hobby skiers and biathletes. Thanks to its position at 1,700 m above sea level there is never a lack of snow.
Furthermore, for cross-country skiers there are waiting two specialities: On the one hand Martell has 30 fully-automatic butts of the type HoRa 2000. On the other hand the whole valley is very narrow, thus the shooting gallery and the ramp of the local biathlon centre are separated by a stream. Every year, there are international sports events in the biathlon centre.
