Country fair in Ridnaun

Would you like to get to know better the rural traditions in South Tyrol, to participate in a typical fair and to taste delicious dishes at the same time? Then you should not miss the country fair in Ridnaun by no means.

The feast takes place on 26 and 27 August 2023. The event usually opens with a parade. The villagers cross Ridnaun in historical dresses and costumes and with old farm tools, such as scythes, ploughs or harrows. They are accompanied by the joyful music of the town’s marching band and solemnly decorated cows.

Visitors of the fair will be astonished when discovering traditional customs and practices. Moreover, they are shown how dairymen and dairywomen beat butter and produced cheese. There are also going to be present the huntsmen with magnificent trophies, the smugglers and of course the miners in their traditional costume. The highlight are two legendary figures of Ridnaun and environs: the “Tiroler Riesin” and the “Pfeifer Huisele”.
