Neustift Monastery
During the baroque era and in the 16th century during the Turkish threat the monastery had to undergo numerous extensions and refurbishments. In fact, the monastery in Eisacktal has become increasingly rich with art-historically important objects in the course of the years.
The late baroque collegiate church “Zu Unseren Lieben Frau”, the Gothic cloister, the comprehensive library or the Pinacoteca are only some of the examples. Worth seeing are also the miracle fountain in the courtyard, which displays the monastery as the eighth wonder of the world, as well as the grave of Oswald of Wolkenstein, a famous South Tyrolean minnesinger.
However, arts and culture lovers are not the only ones to appreciate Neustift. Wine connoisseurs have to be mentioned too. Neustift is one of the most significant vineries, as it also owns a few vineyards in the environs of Girlan in Southern South Tyrol. Sylvaner, Müller-Thurgau and Kerner are some of the bets wines. A corresponding offer is to be found at the collegiate vinery and in the wine tavern.
